The twelve domains of Metanoia Club were not assembled as a taxonomy of professional categories. They represent an answer to a more fundamental question: what are the distinct ways in which human beings have developed serious, systematic knowledge and wisdom about the world?
Each domain is a different way of understanding the world
Commerce understands the world through incentives, markets, and the behaviour of organisations. Science through evidence, experiment, and the revision of models. Philosophy through reason, argument, and the examination of assumptions. Religion and spirituality through tradition, lived practice, and the encounter with meaning that resists quantification.
Art through beauty, feeling, and the making of things that cannot be said any other way. Medicine through the body, its fragility, and the ethical weight of decisions made at life’s boundaries. Law through rules, consequences, and the tension between justice and order. Defence through power, conflict, and the hard logic of security.
Each domain does not merely contain different facts — it asks different questions. And it is the collision of different questions, held simultaneously at the same table, that generates insights unavailable to any one domain working alone.
Twelve is the balance between comprehensiveness and intimacy
With fewer domains, significant ways of knowing would be absent and the dialogue would be systematically incomplete. With more, the composition of any single gathering of twenty could not represent them all, and some voices would consistently fall silent.
Twelve also reflects a deliberate attentiveness to the great questions of our civilisational moment — questions about technology and human identity, about abundance and meaning, about individual freedom and collective obligation, about the short term and the long.
No single domain holds the answer to any of these questions. Together, these twelve hold the full range of perspectives from which answers might be approached. The result is a contemporary big ideas forum in London, where leaders, thinkers, and practitioners explore questions that matter across disciplines, generations, and worldviews.
